The Negombo Lagoon, which is fed by a number of rivers and a canal has an expansive mangrove swamp. The boat ride would let you spot some of the flora and fauna species in the area as well as water birds such as herons, terns, cormorants and shorebirds. The swamp has large lizards like the Water Monitor as well as monkeys and other aquatic animals.
We start our tour on the 300 year old Dutch Canal; built to bring salt to Colombo from over 100 miles and move to the Negombo Lagoon. After watching the wildlife, we step in to the shallow lagoon waters to enjoy a one of a kind Fruit Brunch of local pinapples, banana and watermelon while sipping on the delicious King Coconut.
